Mums require a great deal of water especially in the warmer weeks leading up to Halloween. So, if you purchased your mums a bit too early and have a few crispy, crunchy specimens by your doorstep; by all means paint them. You heard me. Paint them in a spooky black and plant them in a pumpkin planter. You could also add Halloween staples like cobwebs, spiders, or maybe even a bone or two. The best part, there’s no need to water!

1. Identify the mum you want to transform and purchase a pumpkin that will accommodate the root system of the plant.

2. Remove the top of the pumpkin and empty the contents. Wipe the exterior clean with a damp cloth.

3. Spray paint the mum by positioning the can 3-4 inches away from the plant. Apply a thick first layer and allow to dry. Repeat the process and allow each coat to dry before the next.

4. After the plant has dried completely; remove from the pot and place inside the pumpkin. Add spooky elements like spider webs, spiders, and bones. Enjoy by your doorstep!
