Invite some feathered friends to roost at your door this Halloween with a festive wreath. Upgrade a plain grapevine wreath to the standards of a night watchman with nesting materials like mosses, lichens, dried foliage, and cotton netting.

MATERIALS:
Grapevine Wreath
Artificial Crow
Black Netting
Moss
Manzanita Branches
Dried flowers or foliage
Floral Wire
Hot glue gun & glue sticks
Spray sealant or hair spray
STEPS:

1. Assemble materials and cut the black netting to fit the grapevine wreath. I purchased my netting and crow from The Dollar Tree.

2. Wrap the netting around the grapevine wreath and secure in place with hot glue.
3. Form a “nest” of natural materials like moss and twigs and secure by wrapping with floral wire. Build upon the initial layer until the nest is full and correlating in size with the wreath.

4. Accent the nest with dried foliage (I used “Marestail”, a type of weed native to my area) and secure into place with hot glue. Break Manzanita branches into sections and secure into the center of the wreath with hot glue. Repeat this process with accents of mosses all around the perimeter.
5. Move to a well-ventilated area and spray the wreath with a matte sealer or hair spray to reduce any shedding.
6. Lastly, place the crow into the nest and twist the built in wire on the feet into the grapevine. Apple a few drops of hot glue just to ensure a good bond. Hang on the door and enjoy!
