Huntsville, Alabama is just a short drive north from my little hometown of Brilliant. However, I am a bit ashamed to stay; I have regrettably not spent a whole lot of time experiencing what this great city has to offer. There must be an aligning of the stars that are just looking to change that this year and I couldn’t be more excited about it. It all began with a chance email from Beth Ridgeway inviting me to a preview of Huntsville’s Restaurant Week. Beth is from my hometown, and her mother was the school librarian. The last memory I have of Beth was her dressed in a Cat in the Hat costume and reading to us second graders excerpts from Dr. Seus. Needless to say, a reunion was in order and much delicious food to sample! I wonder if she still has that costume? Anyway, with a full itinerary in hand with and a chair with my name on it in at some of Huntsville best restaurants, it was time for a culinary adventure and a much-needed break from country life!
Every August, eateries throughout Madison County participate in Huntsville’s Restaurant Week, which is a 10-day celebration of all things delicious in Hunstville. During the 10-day celebration, participating restaurants offer up a tailored menu featuring signature items at fixed prices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Over 55 restaurants participate in the annual event, (this year it takes place from August 10-19, 2018). Huntsville’s Restaurant Week also coincides with Alabama’s Restaurant Week so, go ahead and make a road trip throughout our great state and sample in my opinion, one of the top culinary destinations in America.
Here’s a sneak peek of what you can expect this year for Huntsville’s Restaurant Week! Mark it on your calendars folks and y’all come hungry! I mean hungry, there’s a big chance that I’m still in a state of bliss from the food coma!
Friday: My food tour began with a juicy dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. Their Twickenham Place location downtown is ideal for intimate dinners, celebrations, or a quick bite.
Saturday: Breakfast began with a delicious and expertly crafted coffee from Honest Roast Coffee, that couldn’t be more photo worthy. I also enjoyed a strawberry macaron that was just the sugar rush needed to put some pep in my step.

Dinner at Nick’s Ristorante was bustling with live music, hearty Italian fare, and a dessert that was on fire! The cool thing is there are two sections to Nick’s that both have that big city, jazz feel. No matter which side you dine on, rest assured the food will be spectacular.
Before the trip came to an end, a brunch at Jame’s Boyce’s Cotton Row was in order. Of course, there was never a doubt in my mind it would be anything less than a suburb experience! Defiantly will be heading back for this Chicken Paillard with poached egg and grilled local peaches, bacon lardon, plus Cotton Row’s hot sauce
