Careful not to just simply discard those trimmed stems. Stems are a great way to liven up a clear glass vase or submerge in an arrangement. Stems look great when trimmed evenly and almost have a bamboo-like look depending on the variety. Pair with leftover foliage for an easy arrangement. You know what they say, “waste not, want not.”

Floral sheers
Spray paint, optional

method:
1. In a well ventilated area, paint stems if desired with spray paint in the color of your choice. Allow to dry.
2. Use the floral sheers to trim the stems to the desired length to fit into the container.
3. Place artfully in the container as compact or free flowing as you like. Place lichen throughout the arrangement as an accent.
